BANG! Watch Out: Important Tips on Protecting Your Vehicle from Potholes

Posted by admin on February 18, 2011

It’s that time of the year: the weather fluctuates from cold to seasonably warm and the snow that’s piled up begins to melt.

When the melting snow puddles, it often finds cracks in road surfaces and settles just below it.  But once the temperatures plunge during the nighttime hours, the water that ends up settling freezes again below the surface and expands, causing potential headaches for drivers everywhere.

In case you haven’t figured it out yet, they’re potholes – and they can wreak all sorts of havoc on your vehicle. At Johnny Londoff Chevrolet, we want you to avoid damage to your new Chevy or GM Certified pre-owned vehicle.

To aid you in protecting your vehicles from pothole damage, we recommend the following:

Inspect Tires. The tire is the most important cushion between a car and a pothole. To make sure you’re protected, it’s crucial to have your tires properly inflated and it has the proper amount of tread. To check the tread depth, insert a quarter into the tread groove with President Washington’s head upside down. The tread should cover part of Washington’s head. If it doesn’t, then it’s time to start shopping for new tires.  When checking tire pressures, ensure they are inflated to the manufacturer’s recommended levels, which can be found in your owner’s manual or on a sticker affixed to the door jamb.

Caution: Puddles. If you see a puddle in the path of your vehicle, drive with caution: puddles can mask a deep pothole.  In fact, treat them as if they were potholes and avoid them if possible.

Keep Your Eyes Peeled. While traveling, take special note of the road ahead.  By paying attention, you should have enough time to avoid potholes.  Obviously, check surrounding traffic to ensure any sudden swerves will not cause a collision or endanger nearby pedestrians or cyclists.

Watch Your Speed: As noted in the previous bullet point, do your best to avoid potholes if possible.  But if for some reason you cannot, reduce your speed in a safe manner and check your review mirror before any sudden braking. Cruising at a high rate a speed only increases your chances of damaging your tires, wheels and your vehicle’s suspension.

If you’re in the market for the all-new Cruze or the red-hot Equinox please use our Black Book® evaluator to get the right trade-in value for your vehicle.

Service it up: Reasons to take your vehicle to Johnny Londoff Chevrolet

Posted by admin on December 10, 2010

You’re riding along in your automobile…with no particular place to go.

And in that day trip to seemingly nowhere, the service engine light comes on and you’re left guessing: where should I take my vehicle to get it looked at? There’s always some indecision on where to take it: the nearby independent shop or the dealership service department where you bought your vehicle and undoubtedly has experience with your make and model.

Johnny Londoff Chevrolet of St. Louis would like to offer just a handful of reasons why taking to your vehicle to an automotive dealership far outweighs the benefits of taking it down the street to the chain store with the fancy name.

The equipment. Each dealership’s service bay is sure to have the latest and greatest equipment to help service and maintain your vehicle when it needs it.  Not only that, each piece of equipment is produced and supported by the manufacturer, something other shops can’t say.

Guaranteed. Some may claim this may be the most important benefit of all: any work conducted on your vehicle is backed by the dealership’s quality guarantee.  What does that mean? Any service or repair that may require additional attention or doesn’t meet your standard is guaranteed by the dealership, free of cost.

Trained and ready. Each service technician that’s hired to work on vehicles in the service department has either been certified – or will be certified – to work your make and model.  Thanks to this training and certification (and experience with the same vehicles) it can assuredly cut down on the time your vehicle is in for a service appointment and get it back to you in a timely manner.

At Johnny Londoff Chevrolet, we offer top-notch Chevrolet and Saturn guaranteed service that’s performed by certified technicians at an affordable price.
